Tom grew up on a farm in  northeastern Arkansas. On Sunday afternoons, his father would load up the family for trips “to the hills,” which meant leaving the flatlands of Lawrence County and exploring the hills of the Ozarks. Those hills became part of Tom and later, when he worked his way into corporate management in faraway places like Atlanta, GA and Dearborne, MI, he always carried an anvil with him, longing for the day when he could return to the quiet peacefulness of those Ozark hills and clear, rocky creeks. Today, he lives “On the Creek” and creates all kinds of knives from twisted railroad spikes to exquisite damascus blade skinners with handles of antler, maple, or bodark. He puts himself into each knife, and will tell you that each one has its own personality. His mentor, the late Jack Thomas started him scrimshawing powder horns, and Tom’s meticulous etchings of mountains, bear, elk or wolves can be found on his artistically adorned knife handles.
